A coalition of African and international organisations is calling on South Africa’s Standard Bank and Japan’s Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corp (SMBC) to withdraw from their role as lead arrangers for a massive oil pipeline under construction in Uganda and Tanzania.

49 global CSOs call for justice for Nigerian villages devastated by Shell oil spill

CORE and other international organisations are calling on the UK Supreme Court to allow two Nigerian fishing communities to appeal against a ruling that oil giant Shell cannot be held responsible for pipeline spills that devastated their livelihoods. The recent ruling that Zambian communities can sue mining giant Vedanta in the UK for abuses caused by its Zambian subsidiary, only strengthens the Nigerian communities’ appeal.

Brumadinho dam: NGOs urge companies and investors to use leverage and require Vale to remedy the situation

CORE and 85 other organisations addressed a letter to companies and investors of the mining and steel industry following the rupture of the Brumadinho tailings dam, on January 25, urging them to exercise their due diligence and to require Vale S.A. to adequately repair the victims of these events and provide guarantees of non-repetition.

In a letter sent to the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM), over 60 indigenous organizations and NGOs from Peru, Europe, and the United States raise grave concerns related to ongoing illegal deforestation for palm oil and cacao in the Peruvian Amazon by United Cacao Limited SEZC. The groups have called for the company to be immediately removed from trading on AIM, citing the company’s breaches of AIM rules and illegal clear-cutting of Peruvian rainforest.
